MeepleMate is a board game library and game tracking app, published by Cyril VERDY (SOFTQUIPEUT), based in Paris, France. This page explains which data the app uses, why, where it is stored and how you stay in control of it.
In short: MeepleMate contains no ads, does not sell your data and uses no advertising trackers or third-party cookies. You can delete your account at any time from the app.
The data we use
Your account
Email address and password: to create your account and sign you in. The password is stored in an irreversibly hashed form, we cannot read it.
Tag (your unique username): so your friends can find you.
Profile picture (optional): picked from your photo library.
Settings: language, light or dark theme, and whether you want to receive new version announcements by email.
What you record in the app
Your library, wishlist, lists, ratings and reviews of games.
Your games played: game, date, duration, players (friends' accounts or names you typed in), scores, game notes.
Your friends, added by tag or by scanning their QR code.
The messages you send us from "Got a problem, an idea?" and the screenshots you attach.
Usage statistics
Installation identifier: on first launch, the app generates a random identifier stored on your device. It is not linked to your device, its hardware or any advertising identifier. We receive it together with the app version, the platform (iOS or Android) and the operating system version, only to produce usage and version statistics. When you are signed in, it is linked to your account, and this link is deleted with your account. It is removed from your device when you uninstall the app.
Activity days: we record the days on which your account was active (the date only), to measure how many players use the app.
Tool usage (dice, timer, "Who starts?"): usage counters, with no content.
Permissions requested by the app
Permission
What it is for
Camera
Scanning a friend's or a game's QR code. Optional: without it you can type the tag by hand.
Photo library
Choosing a profile picture, sharing the image of your statistics or a game result, and saving it.
Internet
Signing in to your account and syncing your data across your devices.
Vibration and motion sensors
Haptic feedback, and rolling the dice by shaking your phone. No sensor data is sent or stored.
We never access the camera or your photo library without an action from you. You can withdraw these permissions at any time in your phone settings.
Why we use this data
To run the app: account, library, games, statistics, friends, sync.
To answer your messages and fix problems.
To send emails related to your account (password reset, account deletion confirmation).
To tell you about new versions of the app, only if you have not unsubscribed: the setting is in the app.
To measure usage and installed versions, in aggregate.
Where your data is and how it is protected
Hosting: data is stored on a dedicated server from the hosting provider Hostinger, located in Frankfurt, Germany (European Union).
Transmission: all communication between the app and the server is encrypted (HTTPS).
Backups: automatic database backups are kept on the same server, for a limited time (7 rotating copies). Deleted data may therefore remain in a backup for a few days, until it is replaced.
Passwords: stored hashed, never in clear text.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and do not share it for advertising purposes. Only technical providers are involved, to deliver the service:
Hostinger: server hosting.
Gandi: sending account-related emails, from contact@softquipeut.fr.
Brevo: bulk sending of new version announcements, using only your email address and only if you have not opted out.
Other players see your tag, your profile picture and your name in the games you play with them. Your email address is never visible to other players.
How long we keep your data
Active account: your data is kept as long as your account exists.
Deleted account: your account is anonymized immediately. Your email, tag, photo, password, friends, lists and library are erased. Games played and reviews are kept without your name. Details of what is erased and what remains are on the Account deletion page.
Your rights
Under the European data protection regulation (GDPR) and French law, you can at any time:
access your data and ask for a copy, including in a reusable format (portability);
correct your information, directly in the app or on request;
delete your account, directly in the app (Settings);
object to processing, for example by unsubscribing from new version announcements in the app;
lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
To exercise these rights, write to us at contact@softquipeut.fr from the email address of your account. We answer within 30 days at most.
Children
MeepleMate is suitable for all ages, but we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 15 without a parent's consent. If you believe a child has given us data without that consent, write to us and we will delete it.
Cookies and tracking
The mobile app uses no cookies, no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics service.
Data breach
In the event of a data breach that puts you at risk, we investigate without delay and notify you, as well as the CNIL, within 72 hours where the law requires it.
